My Journey to Sophie’s Universe
I am so excited to write this post, just as I am excited to embark on this crochet journey. A couple of weeks ago I joined a couple of friends to learn how to crochet… I’ve now well and truly got the bug.
I’ve decided to have a go at Sophie’s Universe – you can read about the Crochet Along (CAL) here. I think this will be a great way to increase my stitch library and in the end have a lovely blanket for the guest bedroom. It’s an intimidating project to say the least!
I have spent the past week trying to determine my colour palette and choose a yarn. In the end I have decided to go with Moda Vera Beetle with my main colour being Linen (2nd from the left). Beetle is a 50/50 cotton/acrylic blend and has a beautiful soft feel. I will be using a 4.5mm Addi Swing hook for this project.
I tentatively set out last night and already, after 3 rows have I learnt two new techniques! I guess that’s not particularly surprising given I have only been crocheting a month, but It’s exciting none the less 🙂
Here’s what we have so far…
I fluffed around a bit in the beginning with hook sizes, starting with 4.5mm… wondered if that was too big… tried a 3.25mm which was too small, then went back to 4.5mm!
I will also be tracking my project in Ravelry, you can see my project here.
